Mission statements serve as a centerpiece for faculty, staff, and students. It serves as a framework for making decisions. Powerful mission statements give people a purpose and passion to perform their job descriptions. The mission statement inspires people to crate a better future individually and as a community, (Bafile, 2007).
The educational mission statement and philosophy serves to provide valuable information as a guide to the student. It informs students of the opportunities available to help them reach their goals. The educational mission statement and philosophy statement summarizes the potential benefits and assistance in helping students reach their goals. The educational statement expressed the support and developmental skills necessary for the student to become a productive professional. It enables the enhancement of skills to reach beyond the classroom externally into the community. According to a definition, “A school mission statement can help a student decide if what is offered and how it is provided lines up with his or her professional goals”, (Mission statements, 2013).
The mission and philosophy statement of the University of Phoenix clearly indicates what is offered. The UOP Mission is the provision of a higher education, skills and knowledge that would help the student attain their goals while encouraging him or her to be marketable and profitable in various organizations with the leadership skills to be an asset within his or her community.
