Introduction
The third part of this case analysis will continue following the strategic management process and provide specific strategies to Nintendo that will help the company achieve its mission by providing achievable goals using SMART. It will take account the internal and external analysis which was completed to give further insight to Nintendo.
Goals which will be discussed will be both financial goals and management goals. Goals will also take account what Nintendo has expressed are important to them and ones which this case analysis has found to be of importance or beneficial to the company. This case analysis will also discuss Nintendo’s competitive advantages and how the company can maintain these to continue to be a leading gaming console company in the future.
Porters Generic forces will be discussed in this part of the case analysis along wit which forces Nintendo has been using with its Wii system. Strategies for the Nintendo Wii will be brought up at at functional, competitive, and corporate level.
Value chain analysis will also be looked in order to give Nintendo areas that may require attention. Each strategy that will be brought forward in this case analysis will consider both the advantages and disadvantages to the company. Strategies that have been implemented before or are being used right now will also be discussed in this section.
Information regarding how the gaming industry is doing currently will also be looked at thus providing accurate and recent information.
At the end of this case analysis, a summary of strategies and goals which have been selected will be summarized. A comparisons of strategies used in the past and which are being used now will also be brought up.
Identification of Goals
Goals are a major part of success for any company. Without a goal, there is nothing to strive for or succeed at. When researching Nintendo, this case analysis has come up with some financial and strategic goals that Nintendo would like to become reality.
Nintendo’s main strategic goal and strategy going into the future is expanding the worldwide gaming audience as stated by its President Sataru Iwata (Nintendo Annual Report).
Nintendo also has specific goals for gaming device Nintendo DSi and its console Nintendo Wii. These goals are directly related to Nintendo’s overall goal of expanding the worldwide gaming population.
Nintendo’s goal for its DS system is to be a device that enriches the daily lives of its customers. That is, by providing many different functionalities such as games, internet, camera etc. so that a person finds its convenient to have this portable device (Nintendo Annual Report)
