RE: The Case of Nutritional Foods

INTRODUCTION:
I am a hired consultant for the company, Nutritional Foods Inc., to address “The Case of the Nutritional Foods. I will be supplying a summary of facts from the case and discussing the ethical dilemma and issues involved. I will provide alternative action to be taken and ultimately my recommendation on the situation at hand.
FACTS SUMMARY:
Fred James received four similar reports regarding food poisoning, however all the batch number could not be allocated. Two batch numbers were generated were in fact Nutritional Foods Inc. and from the same day’s production and one report included another company’s batch. With news reports and world mass media pointing the fingers at Nutritional food it was time to act.
ETHICAL DILEMMA:
Since all of the batch number have not been acquired and once is from another produce company this could possibly be the other companies produce causing these illnesses. In turn making any decision Fred could take, truly unclear and would most likely lead to negative consequence for the company’s reputation or his personal reputation.
ETHICAL ISSUE:
The most significant ethical issue is when Fred decides which action to take. Will he choose to notify the public and pull produce out of the market to ensure the safety of his consumers or will he try to keep the whole situation quite so he can save the brand of the companies’ name.
ALTERNATIVE:
Since 80 percent of the news is point fingers at Nutritional Food Inc. the cats out of the bag and therefore there are only two options here.
