Operations Plan
The tie is synonymous to a gentleman’s attire. It is a symbol of a man’s character, personality and style. Most importantly style, as style is how fashion is expressed. The MicTie is an innovation that will create quite the excitement among necktie aficionados and menswear entrepreneurs. The operating model and procedures for the center are explained in the following section.
Selling a product that has not yet been created represents a challenge in today’s world, after there are so many creative inventions in the market competing against each other. It requires a lot of precision and knowledge of our customers to be able to promote and deliver the true value of our product which will vary depending on each client. In order to make our ideas a reality, we have designed a plan specifying the workflow of operations that we would be dealing with and the strategies we will take on to implement it.
Production process: In order to create our MicTies, we have put together a series of steps that will be the foundation to our production process. We will need to take into consideration the raw materials needed, the design process and lastly the manufacturing process and each of them is entitled to. As for the raw materials, we will be utilizing different types of high quality Italian fabric such as sylk, polyester, wool and wool blends, acetate, rayon, nylon, cotton, linen and ramie. Italian silk, however, will be the main fabric we will be using when making our ties, as neckties made from silk represent about 40% of the market. With that being said, we will also need production materials which account for sewing machines, very sharp long shears, fabric pins, needles for hand sewing, rulers and cardboard or craft paper for drafting the patterns. The detachable microphones will be purchased in bulk from Sony Corporation, therefore we would only need to input them into the ties and make sure it works accordingly. In regards to the design process, we plan on designing the ties ourselves. Much of neckwear design is done in Italy, but we have decided to keep our processes vertically integrated and with the fashion experience that we have, we are confident we will be able to design fine, luxurious neckwear. When drafting our ties, we will carefully designate a small hole for the microphone to be inserted into and then bring it to reality. We will hand make our ties by utilizing weavers and sewing machines after the design has been completed. The main components of a necktie are the outer fabric or shell, the interlining, and the facing or tipping which is stitched together by a resilient slip-stitch so that the finished tie can recover from constant knotting. The quality of the materials we will be using will make our neckwear last very long and hold its shape without wrinkling. In terms of manufacturing, our headquarters as well as our boutique will be located in Miami as mentioned before, specifically in Downtown Miami. Our address will be 301 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33130. We will be holding our inventory from our main location as we will ship out orders to Europe and other parts of the US.
