I believe that the Precision toothbrush should be positioned as a mainstream brush, with the broader appeal of being the most effective brush available on the market. By doing this, Precision could capture more of the market share. After much time and research, the Precision toothbrush not only assists with those concerned about gum disease but it overall helped with oral health. It was a concern that if Colgate decided to do mainstream positioning versus niche positioning then there would be inadequate supply of product. I do not think that this would be the case considering Colgate does have several other options like Colgate plus and regular Colgate. Besides, Colgate would be making revenue either way whether it was under the Precision name or under their value or plus name. The Precision is such a versatile product, available and beneficial to any age, if they were to just to concentrate on those concerned with gum disease they will be leavening out several different potential targets like children or younger people, because due to research the older generation was the only generation that was really concerned with gum disease. The majority of the younger generation was concerned with basic cosmetic dental care like fresh breath and whitening. Precision takes care of these issues as well and if they were to do niche marketing it would cut off that whole potential market. If Precision was positioned as a mainstream product the depreciation costs would be more but the manufacturer per unit cost would be lower. The suggested retail price would also be lower which would cause more people to buy. Advertising would be more but there would be more variety of customers. The number of SKUS would increase by three, two for adults and one additional for child, which would add more variety for the customer base, which is more attractive to customers.
