D. D. Williamson is a small privately held company recognized as the world’s leading manufacturer of non-artificial colors. It was “founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 1865” (Kloppenborg, Nkomo, Fottler, & McAfee, 2012). Williamson manufactures caramel food colorings that tints beer, bread, Coca Cola and many other foods consumed daily (Hoover’s Inc.). “Operations consist of nine facilities in six countries but it is relatively small with 63 employees (Kloppenborg et al., 2012).”
The right mix of projects can mean the difference between success and failure (Project Management Institute). The selection and prioritization processes are critical to project management. Prioritization is a key factor in the success of an organization. Companies must learn to make effective decisions in quickly so valuable time is not lost (Eisenberg, B., 2010). The company starts the process by identifying its’ internal strengths and weaknesses as well as its external opportunities, and threats (SWOT). The criteria ratings have to be mastered so the true value of the outcome is disclosed. Every step of the Project Life Cycle is critical to the project. The Project Life Cycle stages consist of a) selecting and initiating, b) planning, c) executing, and d) closing and realizing (Kloppenborg et al., 2012).
