Job Analysis

Every business has a project manager and a contract manager to help facilitate the growth of a business. Alternatively, each manager must understand their duties and responsibilities. It is essential that each entity execute their duties effectively. The positions are challenging and businesses expect these two practitioners to be connoisseurs. The positions are equally important; however, there are subtle differences.

The duties of a project manager is planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Project managers determine what need to be done, who will get it done and when it needs to be done. Project managers are considered a team leader and have a duel responsibility. First, the project managers have to perform their day to day duties. Second, project managers are part-time and have other obligations. The project manager must be hands-on and able to direct a team of experts. Furthermore, the project manager must possess great communication and motivation skills. Accordingly, the contract manager has similar skills but different responsibilities.

The duties of a contract manager involve drafting, evaluating and negotiating contracts for projects. The contract manager serves as an intermediary between contractors, employees, and customers. Contract managers have to maintain documentation and contractual records. Contract managers are the first point of contact for site managers, subcontractors, and clients. According to Whitaker (2012), contract managers typically are not great leaders are exceptional communicators. Contract managers are considered technical experts. Consequently, job analysis has to be completed on these positions.
