The certificate is a buyer assurance that the product he wants to buy is produced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. The Rainforest Alliance Certified meant to achieve long term sustainability and growth by enhancing the farmers and their families’ quality of life.
The farms or forests required this type of certificate must be examined and followed by on of Rainforest Alliance Certified team members or their international partners in the Sustainable Agricultural Network (SAN). The members belong to this network should conduct unannounced visits to audit and make sure that farmers following the main guidelines that comply with (SAN) standards. These standards include protecting the quality of the soil, reducing the use of chemical materials, protecting the wildlife and enhancing the quality of the farmers’ dependents life through giving them a good reception of education and also give more attention to the health care sector. According to information cited from the web site, the auditors of (SAN) using another globally accepted criteria in their evaluation which is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This certificate given after ensuring the forest and environment managed in a proper way providing social benefits and viability to the economic. (Ecolabel Index, 2014). It also ensures the protection of endangered kinds of plants and animals, provide workers with fair wages, and respecting the rights of farmers, community and local people. People involved in The Rainforest Alliance Certified should follow ethics, integrity and transparency principles. Also, they must be willing to provide farmers with the necessary support when needed. They also should support entrepreneurial activities and help ordinary customers to make their choice regarding to the certified products.
The activities provided by Rainforest Alliance Certified including the technical assistance and what we mentioned before should result in a growing society and improving its sustainability.
