Recruitment and Selection Strategies Recommendations
Recruiting and selecting candidates for employment is one of the final, most critical stages in opening a new location. Clapton Commercial Construction is looking to open a new Arizona location and wants to increase the current staff. To achieve this, Clapton will have to define strategic goals, decide on their workforce need, and lay out a candidate selection method. We will provide Clapton Commercial Construction with some ways to strategize their recruitment and selection processes.
To be fully prepared for the new addition to the company, there must be some organizational goals set. These goals can shape the recruitment and selection process. Clapton has decided on a twenty percent increase. Because the organization is construction labor, we should look at a couple of different employment laws that apply to the state of Arizona like the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). "The FLAS establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and in federal, state, and local governments." Other employment laws that will apply to Clapton are the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations. OSHA deals with the safety and health in the workplace by setting and enforcing standards; OSHA also provides training, education, outreach, and assistance in ensuring that these standards are met and upheld.
In addition to setting organizational goals, you can also forecast demographic changes. Demographic changes to the area in which the new location is set can really lead the company in certain directions. Forecasting these changes can also prepare the company for future changes. Clapton Commercial Construction can really make itself familiar with the area and becoming aware of any new construction developments so Clapton can place bids on potential projects before the competition has a chance to do so. It is important for Clapton to be aware of their surroundings so that they can maintain healthy pay and job rates for the type of work they are doing.
The way the organization is branded also plays an important role in recruitment and selection. Branding defines how the company will be perceived by the general public. If you want your company to depict a certain image, you will hire those who you think will be able to emulate that image. Branding is also about relaying a positive message with your label, and being able to maintain and fulfill that message. Clapton Commercial Construction has been established to successfully build sky scrapers in Michigan, so that same message and goal should translate to the new location in Arizona. The brand's message should be consistent and will require employees that are able to keep that consistency.
