Review of Excel from Class 1
In this class, we learned how to:
- create a sequence of values by keying in the first two values and then scrolling to create the remaining sequence (The sequence does not necessarily need to be values. For example, you can type in Jan & Feb and scrolling will give you Mar, Apr, etc.)
- change the formatting of cells, using the ‘text’ format, if Excel incorrectly changes what you have typed, or, if you want what you have typed to not be changed by Excel
- create a simple formula in one cell and then scroll to copy the formula into other cells. When copying, you must be careful to copy the formula correctly. When copying into cells in different rows or different columns, the formula will change unless you tell it not to. You tell Excel what you don’t want to change by adding ‘$’ signs in the appropriate places. A ‘$’ in front of a letter which references a column will result in the column remaining constant (i.e. freezing) when copying the formula into cells in other columns. A ‘$’ in front of a number which references a row will result in the row remaining constant (i.e. freezing) when copying the formula into cells in other rows. A ‘$’ in front of both a letter and a number which reference both the column and row will result in the cell remaining constant (i.e. freezing) when copying the formula into cells in other columns and/or rows.
- create a line chart and change certain aspects of the chart (adding labels, changing descriptions, changing labels, changing font sizes)
