I found that there was or may have been a great deal of confusion or last-minute planning on this assignment. I personally was having technical issues this week and haven’t been able to access my course to do much of anything, and then I was dropped from the class and picked back up again. I was luckily able to contact Jerome and discuss the assignment over the phone. He was very helpful and had told me what other people have done on the chat. It appears people had thought this was either an individual assignment where they could wait until last minute or that it was a group one where they could just put in a little of their idea or an excuse and be done with it. Even though I had a bunch of issues this week, here I am writing a paper and trying to make sure I get it done on time and in the correct manner according to the rubric. We could have done so much more to be better prepared.
Once we did make contact, the group members seemed to be very well prepared once our discussions started to flow in the same direction, we were communicating on the regular basis. As far as everyone participating equally as a group, I would have to firmly say that would be a no, we all did not contribute evenly and or equally in group discussions. When I spoke with Jerome, we agreed that the group members were more compelled to lean on the side that had more structure, balance and positive attitude and positive reinforcement which was the playground video. The overall feeling of our discussion had an energy which was level and full of positive remarks in the end, and we all seemed to agree on both videos. I feel that our team could have worked very well together had we been a bit more prepared.
In the future, there are a few things that would change to ensure more participation from not only myself but also the group. If I had access to the classroom I would have taken the initiative to get in contact with everyone at the beginning of the week to make sure that everyone was on top of things. I honestly wish I was able to do this because it would have saved not only myself, but the other students a load of headaches and stress. Working under this type of pressure doesn’t allow for me, and I am sure other students to produce our very best work. Which isn’t fair to anyone because I know that we are all very bright individuals. The second thing I would change is meeting every so often to check in and make sure that everyone understands what is needed from each team member. The third thing I would change is making sure to check in with each member for their feedback on how their part is going, and ask if help is need with research or if clarification is needed. Everyone has their own things going on in their lives and I understand that more than many could even imagine, so I feel that for what we had to work with it worked out well in the end, even though it was very last minute.
