The goals and organization for an organization or a company are essential! As my professor mentioned, much has be written about the subject. For this particular paper I will be addressing the strategies and goals of Target Inc. This particular article, analyses the flop that happened in Canada.
“From opening too many stores at once to a lack of a sales website, Target took multiple missteps — some of them operational, some strategic — in order to flop as spectacularly as it did in Canada, the sum total of which resulted in a group of highly disenchanted consumers.” (1) I absolutely agree with the article when they said they took on too machined too fast. Target bought Zellers in Canada that was going out of business for 1.8 billions. One of the things was that Canadians did anticipate Target moving in Canada with a great deal of joy. The retailer opened 124 store in the first year alone! What they had in mind was to bring the company as an industry leader such as Walmart. Unfortunately Target bypassed the common strategy to open only a few test stores and really making the changes that would address the needs of that particular part of the world. The article mentioned that when Target made its move to Canada they felt like they priced their items at a price equivalent or lower to Walmart. However that happened at a time the Canadian money was almost equivalent to the American money so it made the consumer wonder why there was a price differential from the US and Canada! There was a huge pricing perception issues. On another note Canadians also felt disappointed that some line products were available in the US but not at their Canadian Target!
I have mentioned it before, Target did not foresee having so many distribution problems. Target was using en entirely new supply chain infrastructure, new set of systems, and third party logistics. Once again, Canadians were super excited to have Target come into Canada,
