The Acme de Mexico City store will be constructed to replicate the average size of the 125 stores located on the east coast of the United States. The dimensions of the Mexico City store will be approximately 100,000 square feet; it will include an outside garden center that will be approximately 10,000 square feet and a two-story parking garage. The garage will be located directly adjacent to the store. Acme’s estimated budget for the new store in Mexico is $24,190,348, which is based upon engineering estimates and commercial pricing budget (Construction costs in Mexico? 2009 last quarter, 2009). It includes the projected costs (expressed in both the Mexican Peso (MXN) and the U.S. dollar (USD)) for the eleven major budget milestones described in the WBS that provides for a 5% contingency or $1,151,921 (CoinMill, 2013). The cost detail and assumptions are found in Appendix___.

A. Initiation - Project Preparation

Project preparation includes the most essential milestones within the WBS, because the successful outcome of the project is directly related to the preparation of the project manager. Well-done groundwork for any project becomes the dependency factor for other major elements of a project; therefore, it can be the key to success or the key to failure.

This phase of the project includes project preparation where scope is determined, the team is formed and the kick-off (which assumes travel costs for 2 people traveling from Mexico City to Raleigh, NC). In addition, this phase will include the solicitation, competition and selection of the engineer and architect. Also at this phase, a solicitation will be issued to all prospective bidders for the construction of the store, outdoor garden center and the parking garage.
