The aim of the article is to answer the question what skills will be required by the future accountants. Specifically, the paper indicates the need for changes in accounting education in order to adapt with the significant development of society and economy. In addition, the author points out the different professional skills which are important for new accountants. There are critical thinking, written communication, oral communication as well as decision-making. Furthermore, the article illustrates top three technology skills which consist of Windows, spread sheet software, and word-processing software. Besides that, the article also suggests some effective accounting education programs like internships. The authors used data gained through surveying employers of accounting graduates and members of a local Certificated Public Accountants chapter. The scope of the article is 32 employer firms and 76 members of the Panhandle Chapter of Texas Society of Certificated Public Accountants, focusing on the important skills for new accountants. However, the limitation is that it does not consider a valuation of accounting graduates outside the Panhandle Chapter of Texas Society of CPAs so the appreciations of others may differ. Besides that, the article offers useful statistics and provides benefit information about skills which will be necessary in future accounting academy. In contrary, it does not consider about whether the methods will be suitable with the changes of economy and society and it does not contain information on the last decade because it was published in 2003. As a result, the study provides useful insight into a variety of skills which are required accounting education, which will enable to create an academic method of accounting education in the future.
