Almost everyone has heard about Walmart, an all-purpose store started in Bentonville, Arkansas, by Sam Walton. Walmart offers all kinds of products that you would usually have to travel to several other stores in order to get. They strive to be a one-stop shop, and this business plan allows them to make a profit by encouraging people to only shop at their stores whenever they need anything at all.
As of 2011, Walmart had 8,970 locations worldwide, and it shows no signs of slowly down its growth. More stores are built every year in a variety of locations. If Walmart analyzes an area and finds that there is an opportunity to open a store and provide a substantial amount of service to a community, then they will likely plan to open a store there. Although no Walmart store wants to have to compete for the same target audience in an area, sometimes these stores are built within only a few miles of each other.
Walmart has gone international, and you can find their stores in many places worldwide. Here are some other countries that have Walmart stores: Argentina, Botswna, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ghana, Guetmala, Honduras, India, Japan, Lesotho, Malawi, Mexico, Mozambique, Namibia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, the United Kingdom and ZambiaWalmart stores sell all kinds of items, and they do this on purpose in order to keep you in their store and not in someone else’s. If you don’t have to travel elsewhere to buy specific products, then you will be more likely to spend more time in Walmart and buy more products from only their company. Most Walmarts include a general merchandise section as well as a grocery section. However, supercenters often include other sections like a Tire & Lube Express, garden section, pharmacies, optical centers, photo labs, bank branches and portrait studios.
