Google’s overall strategy is – Its best to do one thing really really well and - more and more innovation. Google as a company has got a monopoly over the market as a search engine. There is its strength and this is their strongest core which will continue to generate revenues for the company. Its strategy is to innovate and venture into new areas of technology by acquisitions and  R&D. They work on additional opportunity to sustain their extraordinary growth in revenue by re investing in new products so that even if one product reaches the maturity phase of growth cycle, their new products will still be in growth phase and this process continues. This key functional strategy is R&D, technology, Product design strategy. CEO of Google in April 2012 mentioned “In some ways, we have led the company as to let 1000 flowers bloom, but once they do bloom, you want to put together a coherent bouquet”. This indicates the enthusiasm in the company to let people innovate at their best and put the pieces together to come up with a product which will enhance the brand value of Google. Dominate internet advertising. Marketing is core strategy.

  • Google started as a company being a search engine and they have mastered the art of it over the past years. They are unbeatable in this sector and have become a monopoly in this market. Google constantly works on upgrading this and keeping the search engine at its best  from the beginning of time with initiatives like attracting companies to invest in its firm for further enhancement to Google search technology, adding languages to the Google search bar and the like. This is the core strength and will remain to be in the rate at which they are working to continuously improvise it with the growing needs of customers. Other industries in the Google portfolio include webmail-gmail, cloud storage and cloud computing for businesses, A smartphone/tablet operating system, A social network, A language translation service, Video-conferencing software. Each of these industries have a varied level of attractiveness.

The webmail of Google is gmail which is going strong. It has variety of features which will keep it on top of the market in years to come. Google’s browser – Google chrome is one of the most widely used browsers around the world. The cool features that Google add as a part of their innovation bit for each of their product and services line is what makes the difference. This browser has the capability to save all your bookmarks and this can be used on any computer or laptop around the world and just by logging into the browser, all your preferences can be used. They provide us with convenience as a part of their service. These have a long tern attractiveness. Some of the other industries which would stay for a long-term would be cloud based services, language translation services. Industries like social network, like orkut or even Google plus is not being used as much as its competitor – facebook. This may not have long-term attractiveness.
