Wood planer
This is a tool used for producing boards of equal depth that are flat on both sides. Traditionally, the wood planer was more like a hand tool, compared to the modern one that has an organization area for fast and exact adjustments and can be operated by electrical or by manual mean. Wood planer is easier to operate, you only need to set the cutting edge by making adjustments on the head, also drum, then the working area/ platform, then switching on the machine. The second step involves passing the board through the machine, which is then, carried front wise by a roller in the planer for in feeding, after which it is placed under quick spinning blades on the cutting head. On the other edge exist an out -feed roller, this moves off the machine the completed portion of the board being worked on. The thickness reduction is thus achieved.
A planer can be used in making of the deck spindles since it can level irregular woods. The door edges can also be beveled accurately, hence allowing smooth opening of the door without jamming. This tool is also useful in bringing back to life old wood by flattening them, thus making it cost effective tool in the timber industry.
The different types of planers includes: thickness planer, joint planer, hand planer, portable planer and bench-top planers among others. They require high degree of maintenance also regular check up and replacement of the blades.
When purchasing the planers, one should consider the working space, motor, type, thickness and stroke count. Some might be fixed at a level but small, reliable and portable, while others can be huge, costly and not precise in churning out micro thickness.
