- Executive Summary:
RevMedx, a medical device company, has decided to expand to an international level. We believe that Mexico is the perfect market to start this expansion. The product we will be bringing to Mexico is called Xstat. It is a hemostatic device used for the treatment of gunshot and shrapnel wounds. It is a non-absorbable, expandable hemostatic sponge for temporary internal use. It works by injecting a group of small rapidly expanding sponges into a wound cavity using a syringe-like applicator; each sponge contains x-ray detectable markers. The sponge like application expands in fifteen to twenty seconds of contact with blood, which creates a temporary barrier to blood flow and provides hemostatic pressure. Xstat can be used for up to four hours, to allow time for the patient to seek surgical care. It is available in packages of one or three syringe style applicators containing ninety-two compressed, cellulose sponges that have an absorbent coating. Each applicator can absorb about a pint of blood and up to three applicators may be used on one patient (Xstat, 2015). And unlike other similar products on the market currently, the person administering Xstat on the injured person does not need to apply an extra external pressure to the area being treated. The product is so revolutionary in regards to treating hemorrhaging that RevMedx is now developing Xstat-PPH, which works just like Xstat but is specifically designed for women suffering from postpartum hemorrhaging.
