A Discussion About Organizational Performance According To Taylor’s Scientific Management
The purpose of scientific management simply is to increase efficiency, which means more surplus for both management and employees. Thus, my discussion is to address my view of how to increase efficiency in each case happened in Vail Resort-Grand Teton Lodge Company(http://www.gtlc.com/) and Conrad(Hilton) Hotel China.
- To what extend do employees and managers cooperate and does the level of cooperation hinder or hurt organizational performance?
Speaking of the cooperation between management and employees, there are three types of cooperation in GTLC: higher level managers and employees, lower level managers and employees and higher level managers and lower level managers.
- Cooperation between higher level managers and employees
Since GTLC is a seasonally open resort, employees and lower managers are only hired seasonally. This part cooperation is very weak. It’s not only because all employees are new but also GTLC doesn’t have time to build this cooperation much. As a result, it’s hard to earn loyalty for this company because upper managers are not delivering the culture out. My solution to it is upper managers should change their attitude building culture more positively and communicate more with employees whether its during the season or not. Moreover, offering outstanding employees promotion for the next season will be a good way to get more loyalty.
- Cooperation between lower managers and employees
This level of cooperation is the most significant. I was a server assistant at GTLC’s restaurant. Although there was no general orientation from the company, my manager strongly built a teamwork culture with us. I was surprised by his lifting heavy trays himself, which would never happen in China. That movement immediately motivated me to provide better service. A good cooperation is just like a relationship between managers and workers. In return, we all are motivated to share customers feedbacks to improve our service. Profitably, there were more and more customers having meals with us and we certainly got more tips. Furthermore, customers from our restaurant are attracted to do more activities in this resort; Upper managers appreciated my manager’s impressive job and offered him a higher position; A lot of my team members decided to coming back for next season. In a word, all of these benefits should thank to the effective cooperation.
