Introduction: About the Author
R.L.Stine was born on October 8th, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio. Stine was 9 years old when he first started writing jokes on an old type-writer he found. Later, when Stine graduated from Ohio State University, he started his career working on and writing for small magazines. Stine decided to start writing novels when he was 28 years old.
Summary
The story starts out with Nicole Darwin complaining about her life, and it slowly brings the story into her high school. She is getting yelled at by her teacher, Mr. Frost, because she didn’t complete her essay, and because of that she might fail for the marking period, which could lead her to not graduating. After that, the story continues by introducing Lucy Kramer; Nicole’s best friend.
Nicole tells the audience how Lucy’s life is so much better than hers and then the story continues where Lucy asks Nicole if she wants to switch bodies. Nicole hesitates, but then thinks about how miserable her life is, and finally says, “Yes.” Lucy explains the process and then they jump off the wall, just like Lucy said, and it works! Nicole is in Lucy’s body and Lucy is in Nicole’s. Nicole (now in Lucy’s body) is so satisfied, yet she is worried, about whether her parents would know that it is Lucy in her body. Yet, she is willing to take the chance and she heads over to the Kramer’s house to see if they would notice the change.
As she walks in she sees it. She sees the red, the puddle of red. It is blood. As her eyes drift down, she sees that it is Mr. and Mrs. Kramer, slashed, torn up into small pieces. She can’t believe what she sees, and she runs over to her own house and screams but no answer. She now knows the exact person to talk to- Kent.
