Analysis of Steven King

In the short story “Why We Crave Horror Movies?” the author Steven King successfully attempts to answer that question. Through the passage, Steven provides a few answers; however, specifically describes the effects of what the movies feed the body. Generally, he finds the movies a positive contribute to life. Steven King shares his view of why we crave horror movies with answers only some would agree on: the adrenaline rush, to reassure our normality, and just because they are enjoyable.

Mr. King immediately compares the sight of horrific scenes on a big screen TV to the numerous 360 degree turns of a roller coaster. We go to test our fears. Horror movies have become such a norm in society that even those who are scared, go just to fit in with their friends or potentially overcome their fears. The screams that overwhelm the body during the movie are exactly why people go. Theatre surround systems, the huge screen, and anticipation of the actors’ moves bring people out of their everyday “normal” life into a place they can be free or put their brain into a state of happiness.

Steven, the exceptional writer, also argues through his story that the theatre is an escape place. He states,” It urges us to put away our more civilized and adult penchant for analysis and to become children again.” This is very true. He also states that everyone is insane, it’s just a matter of what level of insanity they appeal to.

Finally, he explains that horror movies are just simply entertaining. Movies are simply enjoyable, but horror movies are not as common as all romantic movies. Consequently, everyone wants to go see them. Horror movies leave your friends crying in some scenarios, which makes it humorous. Also, the eagerness of the killings and jumpy actors makes every moment suspenseful or fun.
