Anne Frank Play Compare and Contrast Essay

The holocaust is a ghastly event, which resulted in the genocide of approximately six million Jewish people. There have been many books written about this event. Both The Diary of Anne Frank and Someone Named Eva are books of this nature. Though they are both about the holocaust, they focus on different aspects of it. The main characters, Anne Frank and Milada Kralicek are similar in their physical and mental characteristics, yet have vastly different experiences.

Anne and Milada both have their similarities and differences. The holocaust as well as Hitler and his beliefs affected both girls. They were both pulled out of their ordinary life and given a completely new life. Anne was forced to move into the Secret Annex where she could not show her real personality due to the restraints placed on her. Milada was given a completely different identity – Eva – and was Germanized. She was taught how to be a proper Aryan, and later adopted by a German family with strong Nazi views. Both of them were arrested, and separated from their biological families. After being deported, Anne was left with only her sister, Margot, who died of typhus. Milada was taken away from her biological family, and adopted into a Germanic one, only to be reunited with her mother after the war.

Anne and Milada were also really different. The stories take place when Milada is 11, and Anne is 13. Milada lives in the Czech Republic while Anne lived in the Netherlands. Milada was simply arrested, but Anne went into hiding for 2 years before being arrested. Anne was sent to a death camp, where she tragically died at the young age of 15. Milada was put through a Germanization program, and lived after the war to meet her mother (she is a fictional character).
