Everywhere one may look there is a form of people. Social groups are all over, thus allowing them to become an essential part of human life. Sociology, the study of the development of human life, allows humans to conduct an understanding of social problems. This issues come in two groups, primary and secondary.  Primary groups are normally family or members of a close groups. On the other hand, secondary groups consist of those who have the opposite characteristics of the primary group; ranging from a large scale of personal or long term traits. If one looks closely enough social groups can be identified in all situations. While social groups are inevitable, they cause intimate exclusion and isolation, thus leading to discrimination; as seen in the novel The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the main character perish due to the mishap of belonging.

Social groups cause segregation and excommunication; due to appearances of the physical aspect and communication of a different class level. In The Metamorphosis, Kafka exhibit social rejection and exile, which can be seen in today’s environment, through the main character, Gregor. Kafka illuminates this discrepancy by juxtaposing Gregor’s metamorphosis with the representation of people of the working class, by contrasting the response of this change to how people would have respond to the lower class of that time period. He exaggerates and conceive these differences in order to acknowledge Gregor’s family form of society’s expectations. Kafka claims, through Gregor’s transformation, that due to society’s expectations, if one quits working he will then be seen as less of a human. It is visible in the first sentence, “As Gregor awoke one morning from uneasy dreams, he found transformed into a gigantic insect” (Kafka), thus suggesting that Kafka utilized an under coverage message. Renewal from this uneasy dream of uneasy labor and abandoning life in all. Kafka ostensibly addresses the lower class in this novel because he is representing Gregor’s family as the kinds of people throughout society and Gregor as a working man. Making a statement of how the common laborer without a job would put himself and others in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Gregor’s transformation also represents the social groups being marginalized.
