Benefits of Multiculturalism
Multiculturalism is an important element in Canadian society because the majority of the population are immigrants. For this reason, the Canadian government created an official policy of multiculturalism to reduce the discrimination against of immigrants, and to encourage racial and ethnic diversity. This policy helps the immigrants to become part of Canadian society. Therefore, multiculturalism has three benefits for Canadian society and newcomers for the economy, mixing cultures and immigrants and Canadians have to open mind.
The first benefit of multiculturalism is good for the economy because multiculturalism makes to grow the economy. The Canadian market is creating new businesses, and these offer new job opportunities and reduce unemployment rates. In consequence, newcomers came to Canada, and they apply for these jobs. Another point is the population becomes more diverse and is growing, as a result, people invest money in Canada. For example, investors are building housing for the immigrants, which contributed to Canadian economic growth. Newcomers bring their education and work experience, for this reason, the government is investing for immigrants to learn English and they can use their knowledge to develop new projects. These projects are boosting economic development. Finally, creating jobs, investment and developing projects make to grow the economy in multicultural society.
The second benefit of multiculturalism is mixing cultures. Canada is a country where people can find different backgrounds and ethnic cultures. This characteristic makes that Canada is unique because newcomers came to Canada, but they do not miss these identity. Immigrants can preserve their traditions, and they learn from the other cultures. Moreover, Canadian society is very respectful with different immigrant traditions, and Canadians and newcomers want to know about other cultures. This is a big benefit because people share their different knowledge about their culture. For example, Canadians like to try different ethnic food to learn about other cultures. Another reason is immigrants and Canadians have the opportunity to work and to study with people of different backgrounds and they learn to respect different views. Lastly, mixing cultures give the opportunity to encourage the identity of immigrants, learning about other cultures and respect other beliefs.
