The story Beowulf gives us the story of a hero who gives the good to the world by providing protection, confidence that they can live their lives normally. Beowulf and Christ have some very clear similarities which makes Beowulf Christ like such as the humility and the praising of God that was shown in the story, his strength, and his spreading of goodness and wealth. These qualities make Beowulf a Christ like figure
Beowulf has many similarities that can make him a Christ like figure such as the humility and giving praise to God. The following quote from the Beowulf is showing that Beowulf is given all of the praise to God and not being boastful about his success after he defeated Grendel's mother, "The fight would have ended straightaway if God had not guarded me." Jesus says something similar to this in Matthew 11:25 "I heartily praise Thee, Father, Lord of Heaven and of earth that Thou hasn't hidden these things from sages and men of discernment, and hast unveiled them to babes." Jesus is saying that God has unveiled heaven to the men even thou they have sinned, and is saying that is a very forgiving thing to do. These two quotes show the humility and praising of god that Jesus and Beowulf both do regardless of what happens in their lives. Beowulf knows that God has a plan for him and he acknowledges this and if Gods plan leads Beowulf to personal success he doesn't bring it upon himself he tells the world he would be nothing without God, as does Jesus when he is being crucified on the cross, he shows his praise to God by listening to him and obeying him because Jesus knows that God wants the best for him. Beowulf shows Christ like behavior by giving his life up to God and doing what God believes is best for him, and when personal success is given not to be boastful, but to be humble and give the praise to God.
