Birth of a Son
It all started on a busy night at work, at the hospital. I was in a patients room getting vital signs, when a nurse came in the room and said I have a phone call. My beautiful girlfriend was nine months pregnant at the time, and I was expecting the news within a week or so. I ran up to the nurses station, on the phone was my future mother-in-law, Mary, when I heard her voice I got a huge lump in my throat. "Josh we think Danielle‘s water broke." I replied without even thinking, "So, does that mean I need to leave now?" Needless to say I did. I told another CNA that I was working with I was fixing to be a daddy, and that I had to leave.
The drive to my house happened so fast I don't even remember stopping at stop signs. The drive that normally takes thirty-fives minutes took me seven! I pulled into the drive way with my heart beating so fast, it felt like a drum inside me. I ran inside, and thought I would see everyone waiting on me so we could leave, but I was wrong. Danielle was putting on her makeup, nothing gets between her and her makeup, and packing her Coach bag, with everything she needed to stay the night. My bag had been packed for weeks now in my trunk, so I wouldn't have anything to pack beside my pregnant girlfriend to the car. Finally she was ready to leave.
The drive to the hospital wasn't as smooth as I hoped, it seemed like we managed to get behind every vehicle that was going 35 mph!
