BITSAA Global Meet 2011

For a long time, a global meet concept has been floated by many BITS alumni with the intention of getting all alumni under one roof to showcase the success of BITS Pilani, its alumni and further propel the BITS, Pilani to be the #1 brand in India.

Once the concept and plan started taking concrete shape, began a spectacular effort by an organizing team of 100+ BITSians, headed by Abhishek Iyer ('02 Pilani), distributed across various time zones and ranging from the very 1st batch of Birla Engineering College and the 1st batch of BITS to students currently studying in the four BITS Pilani campuses, culminating in the BITSAA Global Meet 2011 in New Delhi.

The theme of BGM 2011 was "Transforming Society(S), Entrepreneurship(E) and Academia(A) through Innovation," with the aim of bringing in a SEA change in society and India by having many of our own alumni, who have made us proud time and again, engage in enlightening panel discussions and keynote speeches. With over paid 1200 registrations and alumni pouring in from every corner of the globe, the event provided ample networking opportunities for delegates to connect with long lost friends as well as eminent BITSians.

Reaching epicenter Gurgaon on a cold January Friday, a never-before-seen sight greeted us – a crowd of over 1200 BITSians trying to scan the crowd looking for their buddies, college sweethearts, the juniors they ragged and the seniors they got ragged by. The hallway presented the mad rush you generally see during an Oasis. The organizing committee was still making the last minute arrangements to round off their two years of hard work. Walking around the atrium, you could hear the reassuring, familiar sounds of ‘Machha', ‘Vetty', ‘Guss', ‘Gen', ‘Ob.'
