Title: Bodybuilding and High-protein diets

Preparation Outline

Purpose: to educate the audience on the benefits and consequences of high-protein diets in regards to body building

Introduction

I. Have you ever wondered why bodybuilders encourage having a diet thats mainly full of protein? Why do they emphasize so much of dieting on high-protein? Hello everyone my name is Harman and I am going to be speaking on the topic of high-protein diets with bodybuilding.

        A. Now, It is a common trend to take in large amounts of protein.

                1. (ask audience) Why do bodybuilders take in so much protein? For muscle hypertrophy.

II. So The purpose of my presentation today is to speak to you all about:

A. Main function of high-protein intake in the human body

B. the main challenge of high protein diets and body builders

C. And finally, the importance of high-protein for body builders

III. Before i begin, all the information in my presentation is backed up by credible sources such as:

                1. Kevin Tipton, Jim Stoppani, who all have PhDs in subjects that strongly correlate with bodybuilding,

                2. as well as the Harvard Gazette

                5. And lastly, Steve Born, who has over 20 years of involvement in the health and food industry.

Body

I.         Firstly, protein is a macronutrient[a] that provides amino acids to help with any damage                 done to muscle fibers created by anaerobic exercises[b], which are exercises that produce lactic acid, which is the burn you feel from resistance training

  1. body builders have a common goal in mind: increase muscle mass[c].
  2. And to do so, the best way is to take in a lot of protein because muscle is made up of proteins[d] and high protein increases levels of IGF-1 (INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR 1).
  3. high-protein is usually[e] around 1.2 - 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.
  4. IGF-1[f] is a hormone that is PRODUCED BY THE LIVER AND HAS ANABOLIC EFFECTS IN ADULTS that signals muscle protein synthesis

                A. so for example someone who weighs 150lbs would be taking in roughly                         180-300grams of protein. PER DAY. Because 150lbs times 1.2g  = 180, and 180-200g.
