Carpe Diem - my Story
After an accident so soon and so unexpected, you would have to be shocked. No one deserves to witness such a tragical incident as we did and especially not on Christmas evening. You can only wish to seize the day, if not for your loved once, then for yourself, if not to help one and other, then yourself.
There was just my two big brothers, my little sister and my self. All gathered to celebrate our strong, loving father and our first Christmas together as ourselves. We usually celebrate Christmas at my aunts and uncles place. This yeah we chose to be home. Were we allowed? Of course not. Our father was standing and cooking Christmas dinner for all of us. My sister was being angry at me, as allways, nothing has changed since we were small.
Then I heard it a large thump from the kitchen, I ran out and said “Oh no not again”, because it happened once before, a few weeks back, but he came back to him self and was perfectly fine.
My dad laying on the floor breathing, like a fish gasping for it's breath. I tried to get him to sit up, so he could get a chance to catch his breath, but he stopped breathing, no strong pulse. The tears started to fall and over my entire body started to shake, we placed him flat on his back and started to give CPR. Me hammering on his chest to the song Staying Alive in my head, my youngest brother giving mouth to mouth, my oldest phoning up the ambulance, and my sister crying in the door way, wanting to help. Even our dog as desperately trying to help she cried as well as a dog can, and licked his face. We all sat in the kitchen, doing the best we could to keep him alive, hoping he would come back. For 5 minutes me and my brother did our best to keep our own father alive. From ours father's eyes tears fell, as if he was saying “I am sorry” to us, all of his skin was pale white. My sister cried out, “I am going to call Lis”, she is our aunt and luckily a nurse. I stopped I couldn't pump any more, my arms felt weak, my brother took over and went on for another 5 minutes. I held my father's hand, it was cold, so cold it made mine freeze. After those 10 minutes the doctor came, and straight after my aunt. She came running into the kitchen like a storm, ready to replace my brother. The doctor got the defibrillator ready, ready to stun him. All four of us moved into the living room, sitting there on the sofa telling how much we loved each other. Hoping that he wouldn't leave us.
When the sunny skies turn from blue to grey,
I can't help but wonder just what you would say?
I wonder if you know how many lives you have touched,
