Two years later, after being selected for a summer dance school in the United States, he defected to the United States, left his old life behind and quickly became one of the greatest ballet dancers in the world.
The most significant oppression has been represented through the novel “Mao’s Last Dancer” is political oppression. This representation of political oppression is due to the “special period” which is the Cultural Revolution of China. The Cultural Revolution of China was a failure revolution which was launched by Chinese Communist Party chairman Mao during his last decade in power (1966-76) to renew the spirit of the Chinese traditional culture. During the revolution anything that against the communist party or chairman Mao will be unaccepted in other words if anyone against it will be arrested put in jail or be kill by the soldiers. It was a culture revolution so it was really focused on Chinese traditions anything that not belong to china will unaccepted as well,

The authority dictionary defines oppression as the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner.[1] It can also be defined as an act or instance of oppressing, the state of being oppressed, and the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions, and anxiety. So basically, the definition of oppression is a group of people control their power to treat other groups unfairly or unjustly. The examples of oppression are: economic oppression, sexual oppression, political oppression and social oppression.
