ESSAY on DEFINITION
College is one of the most looked forward stages in life. It is perceived by many to be the stepping stone to the real world. College life is where one will establish their future role in the society by garnering achievements while bombarded with challenges and obstacles. Technically, college is defined in the dictionary as an educational institution that provides higher education or a specialized profession. But what does it really mean to be in college? For me it means three things, it is where I train myself to get to gain knowledge and skills to get my dream job and have a more productive and prosperous life.
College is an avenue for learning. It lets you choose on the field or specialization that you want to have a deeper understanding. College teaches you the what’s, the why’s and the how’s – the very foundation of the field you have chosen. Aside from this, the college hones students to improve their skills or even harness new skills. Some examples are that, in college, you learn how to manage your time efficiently, you develop confidence in speaking to other people or to an audience and you learn to be more and more independent as you go on with your college life.
With gaining knowledge and skills, college takes one closer and closer to the job he or she have ever dreamt of. College life is a preparatory stage to become who you want to be. Some people dreamt of being a doctor, some wished to be an accountant and some endeavored to be a lawyer. Yes, it is true. College is the stepping stone to get your dream job. It is a place where one will be taught and afterward be tested to validate your passion and willingness to get the job that you wanted. These are not shown or demonstrated directly in classrooms and lectures. However, they are valuable lessons that one can learn in his or her college life.
