‘Energy consumption in the developed and developing world is becoming dangerously high’. Suggest and evaluate different solutions for reducing energy consumption from the perspective of the public.

Introduction

- The reasons of global warming

- The consequences of excessive energy consumption. (The Natural Resources Defence Council, 2015)

- This essay will examine several solutions for the developed and developing countries to reduce energy use such as educating consumers, campaigns, reusing goods, buying second-hand clothing, reducing consumption of meat and will evaluate these solutions.

Paragraph 1: Food waste is one important aspect of high energy consumption.

Problems

- Current lifestyles make the level of food waste increasing.

- Consumers are influenced by the retail sector.

Suggested solutions

-  Educating consumers (shopping list and meal planning)

- The Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW) campaign (The House of Lords, 2014)

Evaluation of suggestions

- ‘Buy One, Get One Free’ should be banned

- The Government should support education in schools about effects of wasting food to people since they were children for increase awareness.

- Every restaurants should have sizes of dishes in every menu such as small, medium and large.

Paragraph 2: Fast fashion is also the big problems of high energy consumption.

Problems

- The use of energy and toxic chemicals to producing clothing are the major of environment impacts.

- Using high temperatures to drying and ironing clothing.

Suggested solutions

- Extending or reusing the life of clothing.

- Second-hand clothing

- Using low temperature to wash clothing (Allwood, J., Laursen, S., Bocken, N., 2006)

Evaluation of suggestions

- Factories should consider about Eco-fashion that use materials which are environmental friendly.

Paragraph 3: Meat and dairy consumption can caused greenhouse gas emission to the world.

Problems

- The percentages of Greenhouse gas emission from livestock sector are more than from the transport sector.
