Make Life Beautiful

The film basically talks about a little girl was listening to the story which was made by a man. The main characters in the film was a 5-year-old immigrated girl called Alexandria; the other one named Roy, a silent-movie stuntman. They both hurt their arm or leg by falling down.

Roy and Alexandria were in the same hospital. Roy, in Alexandria’s eye, was an amazing storyteller. The story he told to little Alexandria was so attractive that made her came to visit him every day, and even willing to steal some medicine for him. The story was about 6 extraordinary people, a silent Indian warrior, a muscular ex-slave named Otta Benga, an Italian explosives expert called Luigi, Charles Darwin with a pet monkey, and a masked swashbuckling bandit, all of them had their own abilities and specialties. However, unfortunately, in the story they were all persecuted by a man call Governor Odious. He was an evil ruler, and the aim for these 6 heroes was to kill the horrible evil by themselves.

The story involved Alexandria’s imagination, and she brought the story to life, putting people around her into the story characters. And in Alexandria’s mind, the story was really real to her, and she never wanted the story to stop, or end with a sad ending. So, in order to make Roy continue the story, and cheating by Roy, Alexandria went to stole morphine for Roy. Roy lost his hope in the reality, hence the black bandit in the story also almost died for many times in the story. But Alexandria gave the hope to him, woke him up, and then the story continued again. At the end of the film, the story told by Roy had a good ending because of Alexandria, although 5 heroes died, but Black bandit and his daughter were alive. The film is trying to make people understand the power of storytelling; and also resend a message that worth repeating: when the end of everything is in sight, even a tiny hope will bring a new beginning.

Comparing to , these two works have many similarities. Firstly, the story is a symbol of storytelling in literature. Pi gave to story for readers to choose, which they want to believe, and the stories described by Pi were both in great details, but finally lead to the same ending. Actually, in Pi’s situation, the first story was just a “beautiful version” of the second story. The reason why Pi will create the first story is because Pi wanted to beautify the reality, making them less brutal; in the second story, it totally showed the evil side of human nature. Focus on the film , Roy made the story to reflect his own poor life. The characters in the story suffered a lot, and experienced many things similar to what Roy was facing. But the story was still attractive, making Alexandria fall into it. The story forced Alexandria to think of it every day and every moment, and she could did many things for Roy due to the story he told. The story built their relationship, making this two different characters together, and strengthen their will to survive, especially to Roy. The power of storytelling could make many things change.
