Offering academic support to children at home can improve performance in school. Make sure homework gets done. Let he/she know that getting a good education is important. Help children with homework by setting aside a special place and time to study. Parents can also interact and help with homework if the child has questions. Parents can apply for special services if a learning disability is suspected. This way the teacher will be able to provide accommodations for that child in class. This will improve his/her performance in school. Some children just need extra help. Ask the teacher how well the child is doing in class. If he/she is struggling, ask the school what can be done in order to help. Make sure the child does not fall behind in school because it can be hard to catch up. Also be sure to review the child's report card each time it comes out. Extra academic support will help in the long run.
Developing a partnership with the teachers and staff of the school can help children's performance. Meet the child's teacher. As soon as the school year starts, make sure to visit the parent teacher confrence. Make it clear that it would be best to be contacted if any problems come up regarding the child's academic performance and what can be done to help.Parents should learn what the school has to offer. Read the information the school sends home. Talk to other parents to find out what programs the school has to offer. Remember to keep track of events throughout the school year. Volunteer with the child's school. Teachers appreciate it when parents help out at the school! There are many ways to contribute. Volunteer in a class or in the school library. Attend parents' night activities. At most schools, a group of parents meets regularly to talk about the school. This group is usually called the PTA.
