Free Writing

        Writing is all about passion. There is no room for any sort of inhibition. Age, gender, religion, and sexuality all do no matter with writing. Free writing is the most liberated form of writing; it is unique in how it provides the writer a healthy medium to explore disparate ideas in different forms.

        To begin with, free writing lasts five to ten minutes while writing continuously about a certain topic issued by an instructor or a teacher. Free writing is all about jotting down any idea, related to the topic at hand, that comes to one’s mind. It doesn’t matter if the idea is brilliant or mediocre. The most important thing is to never stop writing for the whole ten minutes. For example, the instructor asks us, students, to write a free writing about social media. We all just put a piece of paper and start jotting down all we know about social media for ten to fifteen minutes. Some might write about advantages, some about disadvantages. Others might write about both. It’s not a big deal what you write about as long as you’re writing. After the ten minutes are over, everyone stops writing and we share opinions; we even try to make a thesis statement from what we’ve written even if some of it doesn’t even make that much sense.

        This kind of writing, this private writing, is greatly helpful. I, in specific, sensed a feeling of satisfaction as I was writing the free writing essay about social media. Scribbling quickly, my hand hurt because of the piles of information I had to write down.  However, in the time being, I realized that all what I wrote was thoughts, ideas, and even recollections that just came to my mind. I actually experienced myself while writing. Not only do you experience new things, but you also enjoy the discoveries this experience has yielded to the extent that you end up “appreciating your own mind” as Peter Elbow said. Free writing has given me a sense of satisfaction visiting the world of writing with an interesting approach. It builds up a person’s character too. When I started writing the free writing essay, I never thought I’d come up with such ideas, but I ended up writing quite a lot.
