The United States Constitution through the Second Amendment enacted in 1971 gave the US citizens a right to keep and bear arms. Granting individuals the right of arms ownership was aimed at boosting their security through self-defense and defending the state as well. Could be this amendment was a step in the wrong direction given it put compromised their security instead.
This explains the reason why the US is one of the leading countries with the highest number of civilians owning guns consequently, gun control in the US is coming out of hands. In fact the rate at which US the US is civilians own guns is alarming with an estimated number of 88 per a hundred people owning guns according to a ‘2007 survey'. This in has increased the rate of 27.7 per 1million people, ‘Homicide rate (2012)'. Cases of the mass shooting of innocent people are also prevalent. A case in point is the frequent school shootings experienced in the US. This year alone (2015), there have been about 20 cases of school shooting! This underscores the magnitude of the risk associated with gun ownership by civilians.
Although laws to control gun handling have been enacted, there are still loopholes in the current laws and civilians still find a way of purchasing guns. Such a loophole is when someone can purchase a gun over the internet through a private seller without a proper ground check.
The US government should consider putting more strict laws and regulations in place to curb this menace. For instance, only skilled persons such us security should be authorized to be in a passion of a firearm. The number of silenced gun holders should also be regulated.
