Term Essay Titles

  1. Background

It is 2046 and the world is engulfed by a terrible war against a powerfully armed terrorist organization. One of the most brutal leaders of this organization was your roommate at university. When he was at university, he was a kind and generous person, well-liked by his fellow students and teachers. Imagine that, in the above situation, you have a time machine that you can use for one return journey to the past. If you use it to return to your time as a student, you must use it to kill your roommate. You cannot travel back and try to reason with him; if you travel back in time, you have to kill him.

Essay Prompt

Would you travel back in time to kill your roommate in the above circumstances? Provide a sound argument to support your decision using what you have learned on this course.

Every week a lottery is conducted and the winner gets to leave the compound to live on ‘The Island’, reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. In fact, all the “winners” are used for organ harvesting for each one’s sponsor, who is identical to them in appearance.”
