Even though there are worries about the spread of digital media because it will make people stupid, it is certain that digital media will be helpful to human life in several ways and now we're just going through a natural process of developing and spreading digital media.
Creating and spreading diverse information have becoming cheaper and more convenient since the advent of digital media. This trait of digital media gave an opportunity to people who know little of professional standards to create tremendous amounts of information. This was also true when the printing press first emerged in the history. People who were against the printing press said it will be harmful to European intellectual life because of its indiscreet spread. However, the printing press indeed helped to establish new criterion of literature like the evolution of novels, newspapers or scientific journals. In addition, in case of the peer review which was done by scientists to share their opinions, printing press played a leading role in developing an in-depth study in science. Now if we focus on the present again, we can also discover some benefits of digital media. In case of Wikipedia, it was made by a lot of people who just put a tiny fraction of time to participate in making it and share their thoughts. It can be concluded that digital media help a lot of people to be connected on the same network and therefore people can create positive effects by just putting a little effort in it. Moreover, open source software such as Ushahidi and PatientsLikeMe was significant to gather huge information from people who have something in common. However, it is also true that since people don't care about the quality of media, average quality drops when media become spread. In the history of print, it was, of course, true.
