Topic: Environment

Skills: Presenting information to different audience by writing descriptions.

Language Aspect: Vocabulary, adjectives and simple present tense.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to write a five paragraph essay of about 250-300 words describing the causes of global warming with 80% accuracy.

Previous knowledge: Students have learned how to write a five paragraph essay and simple present tense.

Moral Values: Awareness, discipline, organised, teamwork and confidence.

Teaching Aids: A video and task sheet.

(5 mins)

1. Teacher shows students a video about global warming.

2. The video will be played twice.

3. Teacher will hand each students a task sheet.

4. During the first show, students are required to watch to the video.

5. During the second show, students are instructed to use the video to aid them in answering the task sheet.

6. Teacher will discuss the answers by calling students randomly.

A video on global warming and a task sheet.

1. Next, teacher discusses with the students about issues that lead to global warming.

2. What is global warming?

3. How does it occur?

4. What are the effects to human, flora and fauna?

5. What are the ways to minimize global warming?

1. Teacher assigns students into groups.

2. There will be 6 groups.

3. Teacher distributes a piece of mahjong paper to each group.

4. Students are asked to draw two separated mind maps.

5. The first mind map is about causes of global warming and the second is about effects of global warming.

6. Next, students need to draw a fishbone diagram for causes of global warming.

1. Each group will start writing a five paragraph essay.

2. Once they are done, a representative from each group reads the essay.

Mahjong papers.

Closure (10 mins)

Rationale

1. Teacher conducts a spelling bee session.

2. Candies will be given to groups that provide the most answers.

Extended Activity

(5 mins)

1. Teacher asks students to go home and create a simple poster about global warming.

2. The posters will be pasted on the notice boards for future use.
