Do you have the practice of reading newspaper? Do you buy newspaper at the convenience stores usually? Do you know Hong Kong has a varied selection of free tabloids? Do you know you can get all information what is happening locally and internationally on the internet? If your answers are ‘yes’, it is not difficult for you to find out a keen competition among the written media in Hong Kong in this era.

Nowadays, on your way to workplace or school, you can get the free papers from distributors in some bus stations or the MTR stations. These free papers can help citizens to save money. Yet, as beneficial as they seem, free tabloids are lacking in readability. These free tabloids contain countless advertisements and some headlines only. If you relied on these free papers to get connection with the world, you would not get much and what you could read would not be detailed. Therefore, free papers have caused a neglectful impact on the paid papers merely.

With the advance of technology, many electronic gadgets such as cell phones provide us with a convenient platform for knowing what is happening around the world instantaneously on the internet. You can read the papers online anytime and anywhere. Also, reading online news, we would not possess tangible papers, which is environmentally friendly. Although not all citizens, especially elderly know how to get information on the internet, online news has generated a great influence to the traditional newspapers.

Due to the popularity of free give-away tabloids and online news, the sales of the traditional newspapers have been reduced. But traditional newspapers still are a necessary part of our lives. They yet are the main way for the public to realize the details of news and the main stage for them to show their own opinion. In my opinion, the traditional papers will be full of value of existence in future. Their importance would not be replaced easily.
