The Nine Lives of Cats
Cats are amazing animals and a pleasure to have as a pet. They have the cunning ability to survive under unusual circumstances. As a small child, I thought cats really had nine lives; until the one I cared for died. While cats live through incidents that would hurt most animals, they do not have nine lives.
Most cats have a lifespan of about 12-14 years. Cats can live a safe happy life, but after death, they do not come back. The furry animals can fall from high places, land on their four paws and live. They can also endure extreme weather but is no match from moving vehicles.
The “nine lives myth” about cats began in ancient Egypt where cats were worshipped and considered gods. Different cultures believe that cats have nine lives because of their knack to beat death. Cats are known for their agility and their ability to land on their feet from great distances. This phenomenon made it easy for some cultures to believe that cats have nine lives.
Cats may sustain injuries, such as bruises, cuts, or broken bones, and get over it quickly. On the other hand, if they do not receive the proper nourishment, they cannot survive despite the “nine lives myth”. In addition to no food, a cat can also face death if it is mistreated or abused.
In conclusion, although cats survive in situations that surely would have severely injured other animals, cats do not have nine lives for two main reasons. First, the ability of the cat to live through different accidents that would kill the average human or other animals is not due to multiple lives, but a few other advantages they have. More importantly, a cat having nine lives is a myth, or a legend associated with luck.
