To introduce my essay,first of all I will give you some basic information about this book.Oliver Twist is a novel written by the English author Charles Dickens.The story is about an orphan,Oliver Twist.He endures a miserable existence in a workhouse and then is placed with an under- taker.The book shows us the cruel treatment of the large number of orphans in London during the writer's era.
The main protagonist,Oliver Twist is a ten-years old boy,he is good hearted,and kind,therefore he was often mistreated by other people. He was living with thieves and eventually was taken in by the kind Mr. Brownlow and Mrs.Maylie.Mr. Brownlow is a very respectable-looking gentleman,who has had his heart broken many times.He is doing everything that he can to help Oliver.Throughout the book we can see that Oliver is a good character,for example,even when he is faced with serious problems,he never loses his sense of morality or kindness.
The plot of this book shows us the life of an orphan and what he endures to the end.He becomes an orphan after the death of his mother.After that tragic moment of his life he gets shuffled around from place to place, getting exploited wherever possible.One day he runs away to London,therefore he ends up getting involved with a gang of thieves. He is doing some things which he knows that he should not do,so he becomes pickpocket.It ends on a positive note with Oliver finding happiness under the care of a low-abiding,wealthy family.
The message of this book is to challenge the society ideas about poor people.They believed that poor people are criminals at birth,therefore not giving them a chance to prove them wrong. This book has some positive and negative things.One of them would be the life of Oliver Twist.On the one hand he goes through a series of unfortunate events and hardships in his young life. After his mother's death he is sent to an infant farm where he stays until he is capable enough to work for the rest
