Many people prefer not to have pets because it requires a lot of effort, time and money. However, pets are worth all that trouble. I believe owning pets can help one to be more responsible and offers a healthy companionship throughout one’s life both mentally and physically.
First of all, having a pet helps one to be more responsible in life. Since pets are part of a family with feelings and needs just like human beings, one needs to look out for them in every aspect of their life. For instance, all of the dog owners need to feed them, wash them, clean up their urines and poop, play with them and take them on walks every day. Sometimes when they get sick, they need to take them to hospitals. Furthermore, they require love from their owners. They constantly want to be petted and kissed from their owners. This may seem a lot of work, but it is something that one would gladly do for their loved ones just like how mothers tend their babies. Through these experiences, owners naturally learn to take care of their pets and take full responsibility of their life matters into their own hands.
Moreover, pets bring about healthy companionship in life affecting both physical and mental health in positive ways. According to University of Wisconsin-Madison pediatrician James E. Gern, having a pet in the house can help children in the household to develop immunity related to allergies. By being exposed to dogs or cats at an early age, kids will be able to develop stronger immune systems and have fewer allergies than the ones who do not own pets. Furthermore, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, people with pets show low levels of cholesterol and low blood pressure which can reduce the chances of getting heart attacks in the future. In addition, pets give emotional stability to many people by reducing their level of stress. This is because having pets enable one to build heartwarming friendship with other people who own pets and with the pet itself which can improve one’s depression and loneliness. For example, whenever dog owners take out their dogs on a walk, they get to engage in special relationships with various people who also have dogs. Furthermore, dogs themselves become a friend and a family to the owner.
