Nowadays in Hong Kong, people always spend a lot of time and money on their appearances. They pay a lot of effects on their body shape and some of them believe that slim is equal to beautiful. Many companies promote their slimming products and treatments on newspaper and TV programs with some exaggerated slogans. This makes “Slimming Fashion” appear in Hong Kong.
Slimming fashion is strongly affecting both women and men. Getting a good body shape has become a discourse in the town. However, many people go to extremes. This affects their body and mental health.
For body health, many people use slimming products or slimming treatments which are bad to their body. Some young people try to slim by diet or using some products such as fat-burn pills. However, it will affect their growth such as suffering from allergy, eating disorder and depression. Many slimming products or treatments can only create a fool’s paradise. When people stop to use the products or treatments, their weight will return to their initial weight. It makes people cannot stop to use the products and treatments, like addiction. Slimming drug is a popular slimming product, but some slimming drugs contain side effects can lead to mood disorders and psychiatric symptoms.
For mental health, the concept of health among many people has been greatly distorted. Many people think that beauty means slim body shape, but it is wrong.
They are actually affected by many advertisements which featured with popular models. Affected by these advertisements, many people will think that the body shape of the model is perfect and they need to slim to change their body shape to become perfect. However, the most important element of beauty is health.
