Having a solid foundation is key in every aspect of life. When it comes to reading and writing, having a good and solid foundation is needed. The social structures are the main point and focus in any literary work. It shows the who, what, when, where and the why’s of the book. It gives you a peek into what the author is trying to relay to his or her readers. Social structure is that engine that drives the book. No matter what spectrum of literature you are reading or writing about, the social structure is what allows the story to continue with speed and agility. Making sure the characters are playing their part in the story. Like the villian, the good guys and the commoners that make up the story. Making sure their role is played to the fullest. From the way they live, to what the get around in or on, to the home life. These all play a big part in the social structure of a book.

In the 14th and 15th centuries, the writers of that time seemed to always write about the poor, the low class and those who lived in the castles. A lot of their characters were poor and working class citizens. Their situation would almost always drive them and motivate them to be better or to somehow figure out how to survive. Those who were not born into wealth or into a prominent family, challenges were sure to be faced. During this time period, the people were always at odds with one another. Fighting or feuding with another country, providence and such. Those who had been born into a prominent family had the money and so they also had the power. Those families were the ones ruling the lands and the people. The poor and working class were the ones making sure the rich stayed in power. We see this a great deal in the literature of that time.

Love played a big part in the literature of the 14th and 15th centuries. Love for family, friendships, and their country. The men fought to protect their king and land. They hid their secret love affairs
