Sources for kids
The role of television has changed over the time period. People use television for entertainment, but you can find more on television than just entertainment; you can find education that can help expand your knowledge. “TV Can Be a Good Parent”, written by Ariel Gore, argues that television has a lot of education for children. Gore believes television is a very helpful source in many ways. I agree with Gore’s point. Television can be a very good source for kids. Not only kids but people all ages can learn about many things. The media has shows for parents, teenagers, and kids. Education on TV is very diverse. You can learn from all types of categories such as: math, science, and even how to survive. Television can also teach in different ways, because most kids learn visually and a lot of cartoon shows are very fun to watch.
Television is very diverse. Back in the days, around our parents times there weren’t many channels, but now there are so many types of channels you can learn from. There is Discovery, Animal Planet, and many channels about culture. Books are always recommended for kids to read to have more knowledge and for their brains to expand. However, not all kids are book smart; visual aids are a great way to learn. The media gives us shows like Barney, Dragon Tales, and Reading Rainbow. Television is educational but adding to that it gives life lesson values too. In Dragon tales kids watch a fun show but at the very end they learn what is right and what is wrong. “Not only dragon tales makes you sit and watch the show but engages you to laugh, clap, and sing along.” (pbskids.org). There may be shows that you think is educational but there not, like Teletubies. What is so educational about Teletubies? “What's worrisome about Teletubies is that, to date, there is no evidence to support its producers' claims that the program is educational for one-year-olds.” (Linn, Susan). In this show Teletubies don’t even talk, they don’t have a certain goal towards teaching kids.
No one should ever expect a parent to be a bad parent. Now in our times parents have been getting busier and busier by the day. A parent will always be there for their kid’s well being. Television is a good parent like Gore states. Since parents aren’t always there to teach their children the alphabet and numbers, television can always help by airing educational shows. “I usually let my seven year old daughter watch TV for an hour until I unwind. (Arnst, Kathy).Television really helps parents ease off a little when they come home from a long tiring day of work. Even for a parent, watching TV for an hour can really release some stress. Television has a variety of shows for parents too, such as law, mystery, comedy, and more. Television in general can relax you out and keep you tuned in for that time your there.
