It is always difficult to discuss an international topic due many factors that are involved and are to be considered. But focusing more specifically on one product makes the issues of globalization becomes clearer. In the book “Travel of a T-shirt in the Global Economy” written by Pietra Rivoli a professor in business. She explores human elements and politics behind the debate of globalization. To initiate the debate in this book, she talks about her T-shirt life story.

Her T-shirt was produced in the Cotton field of West Texas, a Chinese Factory firm. The deal was negotiated in Washington D.C. and later on sold in Fort Lauderdale a Walgreen drugstore. The T-shirt is later moved in Africa in a clothing market. From the story of the T-shirt, the writer shows how the critics of globalization most of the time underrate problems behind international trade.

This book describes the markets and people politics that developed her cotton T-shirt, from that, the story of globalization is revealed. She states that the aim of her writing the book was to discover morals but not convey them. She was also interested with the direction of the T-shirt story. When the writer moved back to Washington D.C. after purchasing the T-shirt in Florida, she followed the tag of the T-shirt a manufacturing Company known as Sherry.

In exploring the dominance of America for over 200 years in global cotton industry, the writer learns of the subsidies that are paid to cotton farmers in the U.S. she also adds that the world’s poorest countries are much behind from attaining the efficiency levels that is observed in the farm system of U.S. the T-shirt was later on moved to Shanghai on ship. Later on the T-shirt was moved in Bethesda to Salvation Army bin and the final destination that the T-shirt ended was the Sub-Sahara Africa. This book opens up on politics of globalization and issues behind economics of trade.
