The Different Titles of Who Women That Birthed Us
Mom and Mother
Girls dream of growing up and being a mother to their child. We do not think of what kind of mother we would end up being; or what it would mean. In today’s society, we see the average mother as someone who gives birth to their child and takes care of them. But we do not see the underlying statement of what being a mom is all about. Is there a difference between being a mother or a mom? Some may say yes, but others may say no. Everyone has their own opinion about the subject, but I strongly believe you are a mother if you gave birth to a child, but you are not a mom until you prove yourself of being worthy of one. Proving oneself of being worthy of the title “mom” is dependent upon the child and the relationship between the two of you.
The name mother is a formal name for mom. If a child called their mom, mother, that may be a sign that the relationship between mother and child is weak. A mother is someone who had a baby but is truly not there for that child. That is unfortunate for the child because they do not have a good connection. A good example is the movie The Help. She was so proud of herself and when she told her mother about her great accomplishment, her mother flipped out. Her mother was more obsessed with the fact that her three year old daughter embarrassed her and so she punished her. When the mom was done, the Help took her aside and said that she was proud of her. The Help would also always tell her “You is kind. You is smart. You is important” until she believed it, like a mom would do. The kids would tell the Help, you will always be my real mom.
On the other hand, a mom is someone who is constantly there and has been there from day one. Who is by your side; to teach you right from wrong. She is someone who goes to every soccer game to watch you, even though you sit the bench because you suck. A true mom worries about you every minute of the day, wondering if you are safe or not. She takes the time to tuck you in at night and to purposely say I love you, until you believe it is true. When she is thinking of her child she has this glow about her, like she just fell in love for the first time, and she keeps falling in love over and over again. When she is in conversation about her child she smiles as if she just won the lottery. Moms know their children in and out, so when something is wrong and brothering them,
