The Tiktik
We lived in the suburbs of Santiago City. I lived with my aunt and cousins. It was not my room I was sleeping in, but I did fall fast asleep. It was a deep peaceful snooze but I got woken up suddenly by a noise. I turned to the clock at the bedside, 3:00 am. There was noise on the roof right on top of me, it sounded like someone was sweeping chickens or dragging something in a circular motion. I thought it was my imagination, probably half asleep. My eyes were shut tightly, sweat started secreting, I was still hearing this noise. Then it stopped, a relief came over my body but just to have me almost frozen with terror to the sudden sound. Two heavy footsteps. Why would there be footsteps on the roof in this hour? I ran to my aunt's room, knocking politely for a controlled composure. "What was that sound? It was really noisy in that room," said my aunt while holding the telephone. That confirmed that it wasn't my imagination. On the phone was her friend, someone died. Was it my aunt's friend's visiting soul? I fell asleep thinking I still have to wake up early the next day for school. I woke up again, this time I heard 3 pebbles hit the front cupboard. Why can't they just leave me alone? I had enough for one night. I will never forget that night, after the pebbles, I heard a big swoosh outside the window. It was definitely a big wing. It's an aswang, some human with big bat-like wings,( insert definition of aswang)
I never believed in mythical creatures but that night made me realize that there are many mysteries of the paranormal that are just too horrifying to explain and explore.
