The Jungle
With butterflies in my stomach I opened the door nervously, it felt like I was opening the door to my future. My hand was shaking uncontrollable and sweat was dripping from my forehead, drip, drop, drip, drop. I stumbled through the door entering the jungle. It was quiet in the beginning but that when animals attack the most. I creeped around to the timeslot trying to be as unnoticeable as possible because it was too early get questions asked. My first day was going to be interesting I thought. I had to tell myself observe people's behaviors because they might say one thing but be something else.
People immediately came up to me asking me "are you new?" "where did you work before?" And more unimportant stuff that I didn’t want to answer that early in the morning. With me giving short expressionless answers they finally got the hint and decided to leave me alone. The first lady I met though was a very tall and heavy African woman. Her hair was cut into a short afro and she had smooth chocolate skin. When she talked I could barely understand anything because her accent was so heavy and it clouded all of her words. I had to listen very closely and put pieces of the words I understood and try to make out the words, I didn’t know, to make a sentence. So, instead of doing all that work, I just laughed and smiled to look like I was listening. I think she finally got the hint that I didn’t want to talk to her, so she gave me a sly smile. Looking into my eyes like I know something you don’t then she walked away.
With me figuring out I was already giving out the wrong impression I started smiling and being a little more friendly.
As my day progressed the place seemed more and more like a jungle. It was one lady that reminded me of a ape she was digging in her skin like she was picking the bugs off her skin.
